I don’t like getting dirty. This doesn’t mesh very well with wildlife photography, so I have to work to get over it. The reason for this is very simple. I want to get the best shot possible.
The best shots of animals are those that are looking evenly at the animal. This means not shooting up or down but being level with the subject. Now, obviously, this isn’t always possible but it should be strived for whenever possible. With smaller subjects, this can often mean sitting, kneeling, or laying in the dirt.
This Squinny was eating in the grass along a gravel road. To get even with it required picking up quite a bit of gravel dust. Thankfully, the end result was well worth it.
